The Institute for Environment and Sustainability (IES) is in charge of the development and maintenance of EMIS (the Environmental Marine Information System), being one of seven scientific institutes that constitute the Joint Research Centre (JRC). The Environmental Marine Information System (EMIS) offers through a mapping tool the possibility of providing spatial and temporal information supporting the assessment and monitoring of European regional seas like eutrophication indicators and related physical and biological marine variables (e.g. sea surface temperature, chlorophyll-a concentration, mixed layer depth, primary production, etc.) derived from satellite remote sensing and/or numerical modelling.
