Description of the event: 

The Horizon Europe/Mission Ocean & Waters OTTERS project promotes societal transformation for marine and freshwater stewardship through scaling up citizen science, and supports the coordination of citizen science initiatives focused on water.
This workshop will focus on key ethical issues around citizen science and water stewardship, looking at informed consent, trust, power, equity and more, with presentations on governance, technology, biodiversity, and climate.
The event also includes a co-creation workshop to define key ethical considerations in water-based citizen science, to contribute to a threshold report.
Speakers include Professor Maria Baghramian from the School of Philosophy, University College Dublin, with more to be announced soon.
Topics of discussion:
⦁ Autonomy, dignity, informed consent, trust, asymmetries of power, fairness, gendered innovation, equity and direct or indirect discrimination.
⦁ Ethical considerations of citizen participation.
⦁ Ethical considerations of data use, collection and open data (including FAIR principles).
⦁ Ethical considerations around environment and biodiversity when working with marine and freshwater.
⦁ Ethical considerations of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in citizen science.
