Description of the event:
The Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (DOALOS) of the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations is pleased to announce that it will hold an online thematic briefing, as part of its “BBNJ deep dive series”, on measures such as area-based management tools (ABMTs), including marine protected areas (MPAs), under the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement).
The briefing aims to promote a better understanding of the provisions of the BBNJ Agreement on ABMTs, including MPAs, among government officials and other stakeholders, including those engaged in supporting relevant processes for States or regional economic integration organizations in becoming parties to the BBNJ Agreement.
