News: EMFF/EMFAF is moving to CINEA on 1 April!

With the implementation of the new long-term EU budget, some EASME managed programme are moving to the new European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).  From 1 April, the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), the Life Programme, Horizon 2020 Energy Efficiency and partly Horizon 2020 Societal Challenge ‘Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials will be managed by the new Agency.

The new CINEA has been formally established by the European Commission (EU2021/173) and will start its operations on 1 April 2021. 

The CINEA will focus its work on supporting the implementation of the European Green Deal by managing relevant Union programmes with a total budget of €52bn over the period of 2021-2027, including parts of Horizon Europe, LIFE, the Climate Innovation Fund, the Renewable Energy Financing Mechanism and parts of the Connecting Europe Facility. H2020 Energy Efficiency market-uptake activities (CSA) will move to the new LIFE programme. A dedicated LIFE sub-programme Clean Energy Transition will aim at facilitating the transition toward an energy-efficient, renewable energy-based, climate-neutral and -resilient economy by funding coordination and support actions across Europe. Energy Efficiency Research and innovation activities (RIA and IA) will move to Horizon Europe’s Cluster 5 ‘Climate, Energy and Mobility’ in the Pillar 2 Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness. The first work programmes are expected to be published by April 2021. More information can be found on the Horizon Europe website.

The European Maritime and Fisheries Fund will be replaced by the new European Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF). It is an ambitious support package for the implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), the Union’s Maritime Policy and the EU’s agenda for international ocean governance. The EMFF Unit will become Sustainable Blue Economy Unit. The funding opportunities will be published in the first half of 2021.
