News: G7 Marine Litter Workshop Metz: Conclusions and Recommendations

Representatives of G7 Countries, Regional Seas Conventions and Programmes to which G7 Countries are party, and a number of stakeholders from intergovernmental mechanisms, civil society, and industry, met in Metz, France, on 5 and 6 May 2019 on the occasion of the “Workshop on the G7 Action Plan to Combat Marine Litter in Synergy with the Regional Seas Conventions”. The event was organized by the French G7 Presidency and the UN Environment/Mediterranean Action Plan–Barcelona Convention Secretariat, with the generous support of the Government of Italy. The workshop built upon the outcomes of the similar 2017 workshop organized in in Rome, Italy, in the framework of the Italian 2017 G7 Presidency. That first edition had launched the review and discussion on strengthening the contribution of Regional Seas Programmes to the implementation of the G7 Action Plan to Combat Marine Litter and its priority actions through their marine litter activities. The main messages fed into the G7 2017 Bologna Communiqué.
