The pilot project in the Western Mediterranean is being implemented in Algeria, France, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Spain and Tunisia, while other member countries of the Union for the Mediterranean in the Western Mediterranean can also participate in training activities.
Building on previous experiences in the region to promote good MSP practices, activities are adapted to meet both regional and national priorities and needs in the context of the Western Mediterranean. More specifically, they are designed in accordance with goal 3 of the “Communication from the Commission to the European Parliament, the Council, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions” on the Initiative for the sustainable development of the blue economy in the western Mediterranean (COM(2017)183), which aims at a better governance of the region.
Main objectives
- Increase cooperation between EU and non-EU Member States
- Formulate regional recommendations in line with the WestMED Initiative and support the adoption of a roadmap
- Strengthen institutional capacities
