Date: December 16, 2022
Place: , Montreal -
Description of the event:
The post-2020 Global
Biodiversity Framework is the most ambitious global plan ever developed for
biodiversity and will be the central focus of negotiations at the 15th
Convention of Parties of the UN Biodiversity conference to be held in Montreal, Canada, from 5 – 17
December 2022.
In its role as coordinator of the UN Decade of
Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO is delighted to be hosting a flagship ocean
event 'An Ocean of Life' at COP15 on 16 December, at 08:30 EST. This event will
explore the challenges and opportunities to move from knowledge to action in
marine and coastal ecosystems in the context of the post-2020 Framework. It
will bring together high level speakers from government, science, industry, and
philanthropy to explore the data, infrastructure and knowledge needs of
different user groups to inform policy and decision making and showcase global
solutions for conserving and restoring marine biodiversity in a changing
climate.
The event will also launch a major new publication
highlighting the role of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development in achieving the ambitions of the post-2020
Framework.
