Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) Ocean Science Journalism (OSJ) Fellowship offers professional science writers, producers, and editors working for print, broadcast, radio, and digital media the residential experience at a leading ocean research institution. Created in 2000, the program is designed to introduce science journalists to the interdisciplinary and wide-ranging fields of oceanography and ocean engineering. Four and a half days packed with lectures, seminars, laboratory sessions and ventures out in the field, the fellowship gives participants the chance to gain access to new insight on fundamental ocean-related areas of research, including engineering, marine biology, geology and geophysics, marine chemistry and geochemistry, and physical oceanography. The ideal candidates will have at least two years of writing, producing, or editing experience for a general-interest audience. Preference to those with a scientific background or science-focused beat. WHOI covers room and board during the program. Fellows will receive a travel allowance of $1,200.
