STAKEHOLDER STAKEHOLDER: Renewables Grid Initiative e.V. website

Berlin, Germany
website

Launched in 2009, RGI is a unique collaboration of NGOs and TSOs from across Europe. We promote transparent, environmentally sensitive grid development to enable the steady growth of renewable energy and the energy transition. Players from both sides have become aware of their mutual interests in realising timely and environmentally sound grid development projects with improved stakeholder and public engagement. For the NGOs, preventing bottlenecks in integrating renewable energy into the electricity system is highly important for combating climate change; TSOs, on the other hand, are convinced that the protection of the environment, transparency and public participation are indispensible for public acceptance. These two interests are mutually represented in RGI’s activity. RGI’s members are: TSOs: 50Hertz (Germany), Amprion (Germany) Elia (Belgium), Red Eléctrica (Spain), RTE (France), , Statnett (Norway), Swissgrid (Switzerland), TenneT (Germany and the Netherlands), Terna (Italy) NGOs: BirdLife Europe, Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe, Fundación Renovables (Spain), Germanwatch (Germany), Legambiente (Italy), Natuur&Milieu (Netherlands), the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) (UK), and WWF International.
