Date: September 14, 2022
Place: Hybrid event: Granada (Spain) & Online, - Spain
Description of the event:
The Final Events of BEST MED & SMARTMED will take place in Granada, Spain, and online on September 14, 2022. The events will be completed by a Joint Strategic Policy Session “Towards a strategic sustainable tourism planning and management in the Mediterranean”. This session, taking place in the framework of both projects’ final events, seeks to trigger a discussion on how to put the results and policy recommendations of BEST MED & SMARTMED under the spotlight of the EU debate and initiatives on sustainable and smart tourism and debate how they can feed the future tourism public policies.
The BEST MED project aims to contribute to a new integrated and sustainable touristic planning in the MED area, notably through the development of the BEST MED Sustainable Path and Cultural Routes Model (MED S&C Path), the constitution of aMediterranean Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (NSTO), and the set-up of the Granada Charter gathering the main policy recommendations of the project (document to be presented during the final event).
The SMARTMED project aims to develop the Mediterranean as an attractive, smart and inclusive destination by empowering the public and private actors of the tourism sector. It works to remedy the lack of a long-term vision on the destination’s future, weak cooperation between tourism actors and a lack of well-integrated tourism planning. For this, it has developed a Smart Toursim Business Model tested through pilot initiatives as well as the SMARTMED E-learning platform for training, capacity-building and networking of Mediterranean tourism stakeholders (currently under development).
