Description of the event:
From their natural environment to their socio-economic
development strongly connected to the sea, coastal regions and islands are at
the frontline of the consequences of climate change, experiencing an increasing
vulnerability to hazards such as coastal erosion, sea level rise, and
degradation of coastal infrastructure. Considering the strong impact of climate
change, EU regions and islands have started to develop and to implement climate
adaptation and mitigation policies, plans and measures, to ensure the
resilience of their infrastructure.
In consideration of the outcomes of the COP 28, and ahead of the future EU
mandate, this event organised by the SEArica Intergroup of the European
Parliament and hosted by MEP Josianne Cutajar represents a timely opportunity
to bring together key policy makers and stakeholders to reflect on the EU
support for an effective resilience to secure a sustainable future of coastal
and maritime communities
