The MarBEF Data System provides an inventory of resources related to marine biodiversity. This relational database includes information on different European marine biodiversity research sites and European marine biodiversity datasets. The European Register of Marine Species, ERMS and the European node of the Ocean Biogeographic Information System, EurOBIS is also accessible through this website. The MarBEF Data System was developed under the MarBEF platform, a network of excellence funded by the European Union and consisting of 94 European marine institutes, aiming at integrating and disseminating knowledge and expertise on marine biodiversity. The project ended in 2009, while the website is hosted and maintained by Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ).
