News: The call is now open: Your city could be a 2028 Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue!

Union for the Mediterranean

The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) are pleased to announce the launch of the call for applications for the Mediterranean Capitals of Culture and Dialogue 2028. The title will be awarded to two cities — from different shores of the Mediterranean — that demonstrate a bold, inclusive vision for culture as a driver of dialogue, social cohesion, and regional cooperation.

Open to local and regional authorities in all UfM member states, this is a unique opportunity to bring your city’s cultural identity to the forefront of the Euro-Mediterranean stage. Selected cities will lead a year-long cultural programme in 2028, culminating in a major celebration on the Day of the Mediterranean (28 November).

The deadline for applications is 31 August 2026 at 12:00 CET. All documents and criteria are available on the MCCD website.
