In this hybrid event, the Commission will be able to welcome 200 participants on site and many more remotely. Policy representatives and cruise tourism stakeholders such as cruise lines, ports, tourism organisations, as well as EU agencies, are warmly invited to participate.

Aim

The 2^nd Pan-European Cruise Dialogue will carry on the tradition and build on the achievements of previous cruise dialogues, organised by the European Commission since 2015. Opportunities and challenges of sustainable cruise tourism for the years to come will be discussed. The focus will be on on the eco-system of cruise tourism, including its economic, environmental and social sustainability, its governance structures. The aim is to identify good practices that leverage partnerships of cruise tourism stakeholders, and to amplify joint efforts. Input from a broad range of stakeholders representing cruise lines, tourism authorities, municipalities, ports, tour operators, and European agencies will feed into the discussion.

Background

The European Commission’s Coastal and Maritime Strategy (2014) invites the Commission to initiate a dialogue between the major cruise industry players, local tourism operators, local authorities and ports. Consequently, the European Commission organised the first pan-European cruise dialogue in Brussels on 5-6 March 2015, followed by three regional cruise dialogues:

• the Mediterranean Regional Cruise Dialogue in Olbia (25 October 2015)
• the Baltic Regional Cruise Dialogue in Copenhagen (18 October 2016)
• the Regional Cruise Dialogue for the Atlantic, the North Sea and the Arctic in Nantes (25 September 2018).

The second pan-European cruise dialogue to be held in Brussels on 1 March 2022 will consolidate the results of previous cruise dialogues.
