The Smart Specialisation Strategies (S3) Conference 2025 marks the fourth edition of this key event organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO), with support from the S3 Community of Practice Secretariat.
As one of the flagship moments for the S3 Community of Practice, the Conference brings together S3 practitioners, experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the EU to engage in strategic dialogue, knowledge exchange, and policy reflection.
The Conference will be structured around four main pillars:
Pillar 1: Policy
developments and implementation
This pillar will explore recent developments in the Smart Specialisation policy
landscape and its links to strategic EU initiatives. It will also provide an
overview of S3 implementation across the 2021–2027 period, based on assessments
from EU countries and regions.
Pillar 2: S3
Community of Practice activities
A look back at three years of the S3 Community of Practice, showcasing its key
activities, achievements, and lessons learned to inform the way forward.
Pillar 3:
Interregional collaboration
Focused on opportunities for interregional cooperation, this pillar will
highlight relevant instruments and facilities, along with real-world
experiences from S3 Thematic Platforms and other collaborative
projects, including a dedicated networking session.
Pillar 4: Future
outlook
This final pillar will offer perspectives on the future of Smart Specialisation
policy and the S3 Community of Practice.
