ESPON (the European Observation Network for Territorial Development and Cohesion) has the role to support policy development in relation to EU Cohesion Policy. Under ESPON 2013 Programme, five tools are available and the first three can be considered as separate systems. Information is represented by sets of socio-economic indicator values that have spatial, temporal and source bindings. Information, even if scarce in relation to marine and maritime issues, covers a vast range of variables such as policies, strategies, marine spatial planning, fisheries, pollution, energy, etc. The information is provided as maps, data, indicators and tools.
