12th UfM Working Group on Blue Economy and Back-to-back Capacity building on project development associated to EU funding programs (‘Access EU funding for your Blue Economy project: Training session on project proposal development’) // 24-25 October, 2022 (Aqaba, Jordan and online)

Countries and stakeholders will meet in Aqaba, Jordan, and online on 24-25 October 2022 in order to (i) continue making progress on the Roadmap for the implementation of the 2021 UfM Ministerial Declaration on Sustainable Blue Economy; (ii) discuss ongoing and future joint activities and dossiers; and (iii) exchange on operational advancements on concrete activities (i.e. projects, technical assistance, dialogue groups)related to the agreed upon priority areas of joint work in the short-term (namely: the diversification of small ports and marinas beyond transport; Innovation ecosystems and introduction to the concept of Smart Specialization Strategies; MSP as an overall sector enabler; And a cross-cutting axis focusing on blue skills, careers and jobs, as well as Technical Assistance, Information Exchange, twinning, and including ocean literacy and maritime safety). The meeting will also address further reflections on mid-to-long-term activities, and the proposed monitoring, reporting, and evaluation system of the Roadmap.

During the back-to-back capacity-building session, countries and interested stakeholders will be guided through practical exercises associated to EU funding programmes, increasingly open to Southern partners. The session will combine the basics of project proposal development including the log-frame approach, do’s and don’ts, and consortium building. It will also put the focus on concrete Calls for Proposals from Programmes. The training session will also offer concrete examples of ongoing blue economy-related projects counting with the presence of southern partners, covering (i.e.): How the projects were elaborated, main challenges encountered, and related mitigation measures.
