The UfM is once again proud to support the ARLEM Award for Young Local Entrepreneurship in the Mediterranean.
Registration is now open for the 2022 prize for entrepreneurial enterprises boosting local communities in the Southern Mediterranean, awarded by the Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly (ARLEM).
Entrepreneurship is key to bolstering sustainable economic development, but the challenges facing young entrepreneurs in developing their businesses have only increased with the impact of COVID-19. ARLEM seeks to support young local entrepreneurs, and to showcase successful examples of enterprises that have a positive impact on societies, job creation, employment of women, and economic growth.
To be eligible, entrepreneurs must be aged 35 or younger, with a company that has been registered for at least 3 years, and based in Albania, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia or Turkey.
Entrants will be judged based on community and social progress and development, support from local or regional authority, impact on job creation, percentage of women in the workforce, degree of innovation, and the respect shown to workers´ social rights.
The UfM has supported this initiative since its inception, and is proud to participate in the evaluating committee. Previous winners of the award have been an Albanian responsible tourism company, an Algerian business repurposing low-evaluated varieties of dates, and a Libyan fashion design company.
The deadline for registration has been extended to 15 August 2022. The winner will be announced at the next ARLEM plenary session (TBD).
