In October of 2026, the Escola Europea – Intermodal Transport will celebrate its 20th anniversary - two decades dedicated to advancing sustainable logistics, education, and cooperation across the Mediterranean.

What began as a pioneering initiative in intermodal transport training has grown into a recognised centre of excellence, connecting ports, institutions, companies, and communities through its experiential learning approach and its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Founded in 2006 by the Ports of Barcelona, Rome, Genoa, and later on adding Palermo, together with the shipping lines Grimaldi Lines and Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV), the Escola has become a benchmark for experiential training in intermodal transport and sustainable logistics.

Over the years, the Escola’s impact has grown beyond its founding roots in the countries of the Mediterranean. Through collaborations and its digital platform (including the living lab - Port Virtual Lab), the Escola has extended its training activities and partnerships to institutions and professionals in Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, the Netherlands, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United States — reinforcing its role as a Mediterranean hub with global reach.

To mark this important milestone, the Escola has unveiled a special anniversary logo symbolising its founding values — including dialogue, trust, creativity and wisdom — as well as its alignment with the SDGs on education, innovation, climate action, and partnerships.

Throughout 2026, the Escola will roll out a series of celebratory activities, including a commemorative Mediterranean journey, aimed at bringing together stakeholders and alumni from across the region to reflect, reconnect and reimagine the future of transport and logistics.

This anniversary is not only a moment of celebration, but an opportunity to renew our shared commitment to greener, more resilient supply chains and a sustainable blue economy in the Mediterranean.

Stay tuned — the journey has only just begun.
