Lars H. Bergqvist has an extensive knowledge of maritime and military affairs. He is a Master Mariner (MMar), an Officer in The Royal Swedish Naval Reserve (RSwNR) and a former United Nations Military Observer (UNMO).
Furthermore, he has work experience from employment as a Civil Servant with the Swedish Maritime and Telecom Administrations, as a Chief Officer on tankers and as a Marine Petroleum Cargo Superintendent.
Academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Economics (BSc) from the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg and a Master of Science in Shipping and Maritime Studies (MSc) from Liverpool John Moores University.
He is a Freeman of The Honourable Company of Master Mariners, has been elected as an Associate Fellow of The Nautical Institute (AFNI) and has qualified as a Chartered Member of The Institute of Logistics and Transports (CMILT).
With a professional interest in maritime arbitration, he is a Supporting Member of The London Maritime Arbitrators Association, a Member of the Expert Panel of The Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre and has qualified as an Associate of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (ACIArb).
Captain Bergqvist is a subject matter expert in maritime security, terrorism and piracy, being a member of The Center for International Maritime Security, an associate member of The Corbett Centre for Maritime Policy Studies and a member of the expert network of The Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime. He is certified as a Ship Security Officer/Port Facility Security Officer/Company Security Officer.
