The Mediterranean Coast Guard Functions Forum (MCGFF) convened in Tirana, Albania, from October 29 to 31, 2024. This marked the first time Albania hosted the forum, underscoring its commitment to regional maritime cooperation.
Organized by the Albanian Coast Guard and co-funded by the European Commission, the forum aimed to enhance collaboration among Mediterranean coast guard agencies. Representatives from 14 member states, two observer states, five EU agencies, and various international organizations participated.
The central theme, "New Challenges in the Mediterranean: Blue Economy, Ecological Transition, and Coast Guard Functions," guided discussions across four panels. These sessions focused on best practices and inter-country cooperation, addressing maritime safety, security, and environmental protection.
The MCGFF, established in 2009, serves as a voluntary, non-political platform comprising 24 Mediterranean countries. It facilitates multilateral cooperation on maritime issues, promoting a unified approach to resource conservation and maritime security.
This year's forum reinforced the collective commitment to addressing shared challenges in the Mediterranean, fostering sustainable practices, and enhancing regional cooperation.
